Biography[]

Early Life[]

Gunhild Triska Fay, born Gunhild Triska Ekstroem, is a born and raised Arctic Witch. When She came of age to join the military, she applied to the Valkyries. Her ability to purify water made her an appealing applicant, but she still had to go through the trails to become a Valkyrie. The training nearly killed her, but she got in.

During her time as a Valkyrie, she met their new princess, Hildr. Like many Arctics, she viewed those that were raised on Tír Nan Óg as soft, always having access to food on their isolated little island, so she didn't have the best initial impression of her, nor did she bother to care about her. Her thoughts were changed after a run-in with the Wizards of the Black Circle that left them separated from their squads and playing a game of cat and mouse. They were forced to familiarize themselves with each other to survive and get back to their squads, and Gunhild learned first hand that Hildr wasn't soft, witnessing her shred the wizards with claws made of ice. After that ordeal, they grew close and began a relationship.

When Hildr came of age, Obeira abdicated the throne of the Arctic Fairies and passed it down to Hildr. In 1800, she married Gunhild, making Gunhild second queen, and in 1862, Hildr gave birth to Aurora.

During WW2, she led the Relief Aid Operations in the Pacific, where she witnessed the aftermath of the Japanese occupations, deeply scarring her.

Darkest Day[]

It was a peaceful day for the Arctic Fairies. The skies were clear, and Hildr and her family were enjoying lunch when a guard alerted them to a large group approaching. They rushed outside as Nebula landed, carrying an infant and followed by what had to be almost the entire population of Tír Nan Óg.

Through sobbing tears, Nebula told them of the wizards' attack. Hildr ordered messengers be sent to inform the rest of the fleets and nations and for the soldiers to prepare for battle, intending to take back Tír Nan Óg, but the wizards didn't give them that chance.

The wizards followed the refugees to the fleet and attacked. With the magic they absorbed from Morgana, Morrigan, and Eirene, they proved a match for the Arctic Fairies and defeated Hildr. Gunhild was forced to watch as they tore off her wings and brutally ripped her heart out.

As the battle continued, Gunhild realized they were specifically after the fairies. She ordered Aurora and Nebula to take the fairies and children and run while the witches hold the wizards off. Despite her best efforts, the wizards brutalized her and her witches, getting past them and catching up to the fairies. Despite her injuries, she tried to get to Aurora, but the wizards tore off her wings, and before her very eyes, she disappeared into a portal in the sky.

The wizards captured every fairy, including the sprites, and then teleported away. Gunhild and the other witches that were still conscious had to catch the falling witch children.

By nightfall, she received reports that the rest of the fleets and nations fell.

Post Darkest Day[]

Gunhild was left to pickup the pieces of her broken nation. Eighty percent of the Arctic Fleets population was suddenly gone, they didn't have the woman power to crew their ships, people were injured or dead, ships were damaged, and everyone was mourning the loss of mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends. Gunhild herself lost her entire family and was barely keeping it together. She couldn't take it all and just entirely shut down her emotions.

After take care of the dead, Gunhild ordered a scouting mission to Tír Nan Óg. When the scouts returned, they reported that some sort of indestructible monster had taken over the island, rendering it uninhabitable. With that information, she ordered all fleets to Amazonia or Nipaluna Island, whichever was closer. Ever since, she's been helping Kauane deal with all the problems the sudden loss of people has brought.

Appearance[]

Gunhild has long wavy metallic silver hair, icy blue eyes, pink lips, and pale skin.

Mutations[]

Her mutations present themselves in her hair. Her hair posses properties similar to silver, and her witch's powder is particularly potent.

Powers & Abilities[]

  • Abilities: Gunhild has the ability to generate and manipulate silver and its associated properties. One of her most potent tools is silver powder. Through it, she can purify water; create powerful barriers evil creatures cannot pass; bless items, people, and places; and cast powerful illusions. She also can't be corrupted, possessed, or in any way affected by evil spells (not dark spells; those are different). Silver powder is also a component in many powerful spells.
  • Combat: Due to the soft nature of silver, she rarely directly uses it combat. Instead, she relies on her spear and martial prowess.
  • Functional immortality: like all wielders of Terrestrial and Emotional Magic, upon awakening her powers, Gunhild's aging slowed to a near stop. She does still age, but no Terrestrial Fairy or Witch has ever died of age related causes, and no one knows exactly how long they can live for.

Weaknesses[]

  • Heat and acid damage: the Terrestrial magic healing factor is great at healing physical damage, but chemical damage takes far longer to heal and could leave permanent damage if severe enough.
  • Inability to regenerate limbs: the Terrestrial magic healing factor is dependent on the skeletal structure to repair damage, so if the bone is amputated and not reattached, the limb will not grow back.
  • Cerebral hypoxia: although the Terrestrial magic healing factor can repair damage to the brain, starving the brain of oxygen, whether through suffocation, drowning, or beheading, is one of the ways they can be killed.
  • Butchering: the Terrestrial magic healing factor is incredible and allows them to survive the seemingly impossible, but it doesn't make them Deadpool. If their pieces are separated, or they're hacked into too many pieces, they will not be able to repair themselves.

Personality[]

Gunhild is a deeply spiritual woman with great insight and intuition but tends to be blunt with her insights. As Morgana puts it, she'll smack you over the head with how stupid your being. She also has very little tolerance for nonsense. She's always been stoic and outwardly cold, only showing her emotions to those she trusts. Due to the events of her life, trust does not come easily to her. She is suspicious of strangers because she's all too aware of the horrors that humans are capable of.

After the Darkest Day, she became a workaholic. She shut down her emotions, going beyond stoic and not letting herself feel anything. She can't deal with the pain and doesn't have the luxury of breaking down.

Etymology[]

  • 'Gunhild' is a Germanic feminine given name composed of two words meaning "war" (gunn and hild).
  • 'Triska' is a Slavic name that means "sliver".
  • Her maiden name 'Ekstroem' comes from "Ekström", Swedish 'ek' meaning "oak" and 'ström' meaning "stream".
