Biography[]

Early Life[]

Morrigan Iona Fay was born to Titania and Obeira on Tír Nan Óg, coming out about an hour after Morgana. As Morgana's identical twin, Morrigan was seen as a sign that Morgana would die young, which there were several close calls of, or without producing and raising an heir. As such, she was crowned as the phantom princess instead of princess of the Arctic Fleets, as would've happened if they were fraternal. She grew up knowing that she'd either help her older sister rule the empire or rule it in her place. With the prophesy of Morgana's death hanging over her head, Morrigan began delving into death magic, finding she had an affinity with the taboo art. She also studied combat and war magic to protect her sister.

As an adult, Morrigan began her mandatory military service. Once her mandatory service was completed, she elected to remain in service, beginning what would become a long, fruitful military career. It was around this time she adopted Harbingir and made him her familiar.

Meeting Eirene[]

Some time as a young adult (which is anywhere from 25 to 50 for fairies), Morgana made first contact with fairies from another realm, the World of Dreams, home of the Dream Fairies. A delegation from the World of Dreams was invited to Tír Nan Óg to set up good relations. The delegation consisted of Queen Tinkerbell, her guard, and her niece, Ambassador Eirene, Fairy of Hope and Peace. Morrigan was a part of the Tír Nan Óg delegation and was immediately taken in by the Dream Fairy's dark blue hair and pointed ears. During meeting breaks, Morrigan tried to get close to Eirene, but Eirene was put off by Morrigan's death magic. By the end of the meetings, Queen Tinkerbell said that the World of Dreams wouldn't join the empire, but they would ally themself with the empire if they would aid them against their enemy, Captain James Hook of the Nightmare Realm.

Morrigan and Morgana, along with their guards, were given the power to enter and traverse the World of Dreams, Onyrix, and entered the realm to fight off the invading pirates. It was during one battle against the Zombie Pirates that Morrigan saved Eirene's live by ordering the pirates to "fall apart". It was that day Eirene began warming up to Morrigan, and she would eventually get over her fear of her magic.

Morrigan and Eirene eventually were married, and Eirene was permanently assigned as the World of Dreams' diplomat to the Sylvan Empire. Morrigan would climb the ranks and become the Military Chief of the Armtha Forneartne Sylvan, the highest military rank in the entire empire, also granting her the title of Voice of War in the Imperial Counsel. She went on to help the US in their revolutionary war, to give the British royal family the bird, and command the empire's forces through WW2. Nebula would eventually be born during the late 1940s. After WW2, the Sylvan Empire entered a period of isolationism, withdrawing from the human world.

The Darkest Day[]

While Morgana was off on a scouting mission in the human world, Morrigan was left in charge. Things were peaceful until the sky suddenly went dark and the Wizards of the Black Circle teleported in, carrying with them a captured and beaten Morgana. Morrigan lead the charge against the wizards, entering into battle against Ogron. Ogron's power, with the magic he stole from Morgana, proved to be too much, and he badly beat Morrigan. Her injuries were severe, but she would've been able to heal from them if her wings hadn't been torn off. Ogron tossed her aside, like a piece of garbage, as he continued on to another fairy. She landed next to her sister, her terrified face being the last thing she saw alive. Her final living words were, "Some prophesy."

Existence After Death[]

Being a Fairy of Death, Morrigan's existence didn't end with her death. She became an Aoire na Marbh [Shepherd of the Dead]. As an Aoire na Marbh, she posses the ability to travel between the realm of the living and the realm of the dead freely, always accompanied by Harbingir. She now leads the dead through the dangers of the Shadow Marsh to the safety of the Lunar Garden, the realm of Sister Moon.

After Nebula possessed Roxy, Morrigan visited her niece in the middle of the night to apologize for Nebula's actions, but Roxy rejected the apology and told her to leave.

Morrigan with wings

Appearance[]

Morrigan looks exactly like Morgana, with the exception of her wings. Her wing tails are fully developed and thick and long. She wears a dark purple funeral robe with blue and gold embroidery and a white raven mask. She also carries a shepherd's crook and soul-fire lantern to protect the souls of the dead from the creatures of the Shadow Marsh.

Powers & Abilities[]

  • Abilities: as a war fairy, her magic is mostly combat focused. She has defensive and offensive magic that is rivaled by few. However, war is more than just attack and defense. She has a wide array of stealth and intel gathering related abilities, which are strengthened by her death magic. As a death fairy, she can move like a ghost. Non-magical security means nothing when she can walked right through. She can also raise the dead to fight for her, but due to the immoral nature of that ability, she reserves it for only when there's no other choice.
  • Onyrix Magic: in order to aid Aislingne Verden, Morrigan was given Onyrix Magic, and her Onyrix ability was Nightmare. She had the ability to place someone in a catatonic state and force them to experience their worst fears. She had full of this nightmare scenario.
  • Eternal Unlife: Unless the Shadow Marshes cease existing, Morrigan will continue to exist in her ghostly state for the rest of eternity. This makes her immune to exorcisms and reanimation.

Former Abilities[]

  • Functional immortality: like all wielders of Terrestrial and Emotional Magic, upon awakening her powers, Morrigan's aging slowed to a near stop. But she lost this ability when she died.

Spells[]

  • Reanimation Lightning: an electric blast that can animate the dead or bring someone back from the brink of dead by jumpstarting their body.
  • Spirit Summoning: when the barrier between the realm of the living and the realm of the dead is thin enough, she can bring a spirit through the vale, typically done at the request of the deceased's family.

Fairy Queen's Curse[]

TBA (spoilers)

Personality[]

Morrigan is stubborn. When she first learned of what her birth supposedly meant, she was determined to protect her sister. She is very self-confident and understands when something isn't her fault. Where as others may have internalized the prophesy, blaming themselves for what they believe will be their sibling's fate, she recognizes that she had no control in her birth and, thus, never developed any form of self hatred. She loves her family and is willing to do anything for them. Being a Fairy of Death, she knows all to well how fleeting life is, so she believes in cherishing every moment.

Etymology[]

  • 'Morrigan' is a goddess of battle, strife and fertility, and the name means "great queen", "phantom queen", and "queen of nightmares".
  • 'Iona' is a Hebrew and Gaelic name meaning "dove", a symbol of peace, and "yew-place". A yew is a coniferous tree that grows red berrylike fruits, most parts of which are highly poisonous.
