Overview[]

At the beginning of time, nine gods formed from the energy of the Big Bang. As the universe formed around them and they became adults, they decided they wanted to be parents, but they couldn't agree on how they wanted to raise their children, and it quickly devolved into arguments and fights. One fight between the twins, Brinhóid and Tromarudrom, got so bad that the rest of their siblings had to forcefully separate them. Tromarudrom was so enraged that they swore that their children would destroy Brinhóid's children at any cost and stormed off. The remaining siblings decided that they should all go their separate ways and raise their children where and how they see fit, creating the Nine Realms.

Each of the Nine Realms possesses their own unique magic that only beings of their realm can naturally use, but beings from other realms can be gifted the magic of a realm, if they meet a certain criteria.

Dumha (Earth) & Deirfiúr Ghealach (moon)[]

Early in Earth's development and despite Mjora's attempts to prevent such a thing, the planet was struck by a large asteroid. This significantly set back Earth's cooling, but it ended up benefiting it in the long run. The impact broke off a piece of Mjora, birthing Deirfiúr Ghealach, who still protects the Earth. The impact also deposited large amounts of metals that would benefit the Earthlings greatly.

Mjora believes her children should be strong, so she created a world filled with many dangers but also the resources to overcome those dangers. She also rarely interferes with the matters of her children and prefers to let them sort if out amongst themselves and for natural selection to dictate what they'll become. How does one expect to get strong if mommy's holding your hand through everything? Earth is the most ecologically diverse planet known to the Nine Realms and the Magic Dimension, hosting every known environment that can exist on a planet with an oxygen atmosphere. Scholars of the Magic Dimension call it a death world. Their Tree of Life sits on the island of Tír Nan Óg.

The most prevalent species on Earth are the humans. By the MDS (Magic Dimension Standards chart), they are considered to be a medium species, typically reaching between 5' and 6', but some specimens can be taller or shorter, especially if they are of a specific sup-species. They are bipedal, have two highly dexterous grasping limbs that separate into five long-digits each, and have two plantigrade, locomotive limbs that end in five short-digits each. They are very good as running and throwing. They lack any form of tail. They are an active hunter predatory species with forward facing eyes and small but sharp fangs. They hunt via persistence hunting, using a mechanism called "sweat" to cool themselves while moving. They can also swim and climb, though not well. They are an extremely hardy race that can and will live any place where they can stand outside naked for 30 minutes and not die.

There are several human sub-species, though they call them "ethnic groups" or "races", determined by their skin color and facial features. As far as we know, the facial differences are purely cosmetic. Normal human skin colors range from light peach to brown to black. This is caused by a compound called melanin. The humans with less melanin in their skin evolved to better retain heat, and the humans with more melanin in their skin evolved to have better protection from solar radiation.

Earth's native magic is Terrestrial Magic, but humans have combined it with the Emotional Magic of the Magic Dimension, creating fairies and witches, being one of only two planets within the Nine Realms to have fairies. Terrestrial Magic specializes in manipulating and enhancing one's environment, emotions, and one's own body and is heavily tied to Earth's moon. Terrestrial Magic provides its wielders with incredible strength and power, but it's hard to learn and difficult control. It is also highly mutagenic, semi-/permanently altering the user's body. Outworlders can gain this magic by earning the faith of a Earthling.

Aislingne Verden[]

Brinhóid believes that her children should focus on the spiritual aspects of life, so created a world where her children would want for nothing and would have ample time for their spiritual journeys. That said, she does not spoil her children. They have and can easily get what they need to survive, but if they want luxuries, they have to make them themselves.

Aislingne Verden has only one mountainous and heavily forested continent with many lakes and rivers flowing through it and vast oceans. It has little wildlife and a wide verity of, mostly edible, plant life. Their Tree of Life sits in the center of this continent.

There are two sentient species that call Aislingne Verden home, the aisling-sí (dream fairies) and the aisling-murúch (dream mermaids/mermen).

The aisling-sí are almost indistinguishable from humans. The only ways to tell them apart from the outside are the aisling-sí's pointed ears and blunt teeth.

The aisling-murúch are very similar to the mermaids of Andros, with the exception of their pointed ears, flamboyant tails and fins, bult teeth, and the lack of spots on the males.

Both species are herbivores, being able to solely survive off the edible plants that grow all over their planet.

Their native magic is Onyrix Magic, and like the humans, they've combined it with Emotional Magic, being the only other Nine Realms planet to have it. Onyrix Magic specializes in spiritual and psionic powers. Anyone with this magic can develop powerful psionic abilities. These abilities typically present themselves through dreams, visions, or the eyes. Outworlders can gain this magic by earning the favor of Brinhóid or the queen of Aislingne Verden.

Aislingne Verden is the nexus of dreams. All that dream within the Nine Realms travel there as they sleep and flow through the energy of the realm. Most are unaware of their travels and never leave the energy streams, but some rare few can traverse the land as ghosts and bring the memories of what they've seen to the waking world, though usually distorted and nonsensical. Almost all believe what they saw were merely dreams and forget, but some use what they see as inspiration.

Tromluíne Verden[]

Tromarudrom is often considered to be the twin of Brinhóid, being born at the exact same time and sharing the same power. They were once very similar to their twin, but after their fight, they grew bitter and spiteful, becoming a monster.

Little is known about Tromluíne Verden. No soul who has ever traveled to the realm has ever returned. The only information on Tromluíne Verden that's ever been successfully gathered has come from Tromarudrom's attacks. Every few centuries, Tromarudrom has launched attacks against their siblings' worlds, with forces mainly consisting of shadow creatures and zombie pirates. These creatures travel via portals that emit an aura of danger and darkness.

The native magic is also Onyrix Magic, and the shadow creatures are purely made of it, making them invisible to anyone without Onyrix Magic.

Asgard[]

Aspiorachta is the most stubborn and one of the more prideful of her siblings. When the siblings all went their separate ways, she, Uisciach, and Artálaibhe traveled together for a while to find their worlds. During their travels, the three of them came across an ice giant. Uisciach and Artálaibhe joked about setting up there. Aspiorachta proclaimed she actually could, Uisciach and Artálaibhe dared her to actually do it, and she did.

Asgard is similar to Neptune. The planet orbits a B-class star but is too far away to receive much heat. It is completely covered in ice but has vast oceans of water, methane, and ammonia under the ice. The planet has a molten core that keeps the oceans from freezing and is itself kept warm by radioactive decay. The planet has a hydrogen and helium atmosphere, making it difficult for oxygen breathing lifeforms to visit. Their Tree of Life has it's roots in the molten core and its leaves reach up above the ice. It has adapted to the planet's environment, taking on a blue crystalline appearance in the process.

Astrid Full

siocduin specimen

The dominate and only species of the planet are the siocduin (frost people), a name given to them. The siocduin are completely made of semisolid water, methane, and ammonia ice with the ability to change their form at will. They are able to harden their bodies using their strong willpower, potentially even hardening themselves into different phases of ice. They lack the need to feed, but they drink the water, methane, and ammonia liquid mixture that make up their oceans to self repair. Leaving their homeworld is difficult as they will begin to evaporate if they travel to warmer planets.

The native magic is Will Magic. This magic makes the wielder immune to mind control and gives them enhanced resistance abilities against mental invasion and stronger control over their magic. Outworlders can gain this magic by impressing Aspiorachta with their determination and willpower.

Vanríocht[]

Uisciach frequently gets bored. They created their children to entertain themself. They also has a strong affinity for water. They found a water world and merged with the ocean, allowing them to be aware of everything going on within their waters.

Vanríocht is entirely and solely covered by water and ice. It lacks any above water land and a gaseous atmosphere. It has polar ice sheets called the Domes. The planet has a rocky core that the native sapient species has built its civilization on and that their Tree of Life has its roots in. Their Tree of Life has adapted to the water and looks like a seaweed tree.

Atlanteans

Atlanteans

The dominate species are the ǂậẅēǧluǂǂǧậ, but humans call them the atlanteans. The atlanteans are a humanoid fish-like species blue-green skin, gills on the side of their faces, webbed hands and feet, and a dark blue fin on the back of their heads and backs. Males only grow to about four feet and, during the mating season, grow long and colorful ornamental fins to attract mates. The females are twice the size of males and have some very scary teeth and claws. Their most honorable profession is that of the entertainer. They will put on shows and mock battles to entertain Uisciach, who presides over them as their monarch. Atlanteans completely lack the ability to breathe outside of water, requiring water takes to travel out of it.

The native magic is Entertainment Magic. This magic specializes in creating spectacles and other forms of entertainment. This magic gives its wielders the ability to cast Minor Illusion, even if they have no proclivity for illusion magic, and to create "stunt doubles". Stunt doubles are physical clones of a person that have all their powers, skills, and memories, but they can only sustain a limited amount of damage before they disappear in a sparkling mist. (Yes, these are basically Shadow Clones.) Outworlders can gain this magic by entertaining Uisciach.

Flamrath[]

Artálaibhe is the most impatient of his siblings. He didn't have the patience to wait for his chosen planet to cool, and he has a strong affinity for fire, so he created his children to be able to live on a volcanic planet.

Flamrath is similar to Venus but is closer to the size of Saturn. The planet has heavy seismic activity with frequent volcanic eruptions and several large moons that add to the instability. The planet's surface is covered with lava flows and pools that lead down to the mineral rich magma lakes under the crust. The atmosphere is primarily carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide and very dense. The few people who have ever visited describe moving through the air as feeling more like swimming. The planet has sulfuric acid clouds covering large swaths of it. It also frequently rains and forms sulfur pools that the sulfur beasts live near. Their Tree of Life has adapted to have a glass-like crystal structure covering it to protect it from the sulfur and to subsist solely off the minerals in the magma.

Tindraclohne

tindraclohne specimen

The dominate species are the [high pitched screech, low pitched tone transition into an infrasonic screech]. They communicate using screeches and tones of varying frequencies that many species find unpleasant. Sylvans call them the tindraclohne (sparkle/twinkle rocks). The tindraclohne are silicon based crystalline life forms that are shaped like twinkling lights. They come in many colors and only grow to about two feet from tip to tip. As they're growing, they feed off the minerals in the magma, which is what determines their colors, but once fully grown, they only need to feed to self repair. Their magic allows them to control the magma, which they use to form protective shells whenever they need to venture above the crust. Sulfuric acid has the ability to dissolve them into goo. Acute exposure to sulfur dioxide and sulfuric rain will only cause mild corrosive damage, but prolonged exposure can be deadly. The magma also protects them from the sulfur beasts, predatory creatures of stone and glass that drink and spit sulfuric acid. With proper training to contain their heat, they can also use these shells to travel off world, leading to most people only seeing them as rock monsters.

The native magic is Turbo Magic. Users of this magic can receive a short but massive boost in power in exchange of not being able to use any magic for the next minute. The tindraclohne have used this "rage" ability many a time to survive. Outworlders can gain this power simply by asking for it.

Lúbaile[]

Aldheriontas is the most quiet and scholarly of her siblings. She could easily just stand around and be completely unnoticed, much like the air. She wanted a peaceful life for her children, so she found a little planet in the far reaches of the galaxy to raise her children.

Lúbaile is a lush world with several moons and many intresting phenomena across its surface. The planet has a low gravity, only 0.4 G, and the planet is rich magnetic compounds and has an abnormality strong magnetosphere. These factors combine to create floating islands that can be found across the planet. The dominate species built their civilizations atop the islands to protect them from fire. The planet's atmosphere is 37% oxygen, creating the perfect conditions for incredibly large arthropod-like creatures to evolve. Noble gases make up 8% of the atmosphere. The planet's environment is similar to grasslands and the Californian redwood forests with towering trees that can sometimes almost reach the floating islands and with trunks thick enough to build a house inside, with their Tree of Life being amongst these trees. The planet experiences frequent, devastating fires, so the trees are separated by up to an acre of grass and light brush. The planet has deep oceans that cover 50% of the surface and strong winds that carry water into the atmosphere and form large cirrus clouds.

The planet has two dominate species, the wind spirits and the chitters.

The wind spirits are creatures of coalesced noble gases held together by their magic, which makes them appear light green, but they can change their colors and created different patterns, which they use to communicate. They feed off of the noble gases in the atmosphere to make up for the gases they lose as they move around. They appear as spirit-like beings with a torso, arms, a tail, and a head but lack legs. They act as the diplomates for their planet as their sister species can be quite irritable.

The chitters are an insectoid-like species, and unlike their sibling species, they are very solid. They feed off of plants and other animals, and they are highly skilled hunters. They have four sets of segmented ground locomotive limbs and a set of wings attached to their abdomen. Their thorax is attached to their abdomen at a 90 degree angle, but they can lean back to an 85 degree angle and lean forward to a 190 degree angle. Attached to their thorax are a pair of manipulator limbs and a pair of mantis-like claw limbs that they use for hunting. Their heads are fairly large and have compound eyes, pheromone sensing antennae, and imposing mandibles. They communicate using a combination of chittering, wing buzzing, and pheromones. They are an all female species that grow to about four feet tall, six feet long, and reproduce via parthenogenesis. They are mostly green, but they have streaks of varying colors and thicknesses along the back of their bodies and top of their heads.

The native magic is Academe Magic. The dominate species of Lúbaile are knowledge seekers. Their society is based on the pursuit of knowledge. Academe Magic gives the user a psionic connection to the vast libraries of Lúbaile, like having a search engine in your head. Outworlders can gain this magic by providing new information to the library.

Thíosverden[]

Tiarn Dorchu is the most prideful and one of the more stubborn of his siblings. He's not as stubborn as Aspiorachta, but he knew the worth of his work and worked hard to make anything he creates perfect. He found a nice planet surrounded by other celestial bodies to protect it and set about creating his perfect children, tall and slender but strong, graceful, and highly intelligent. He created his children and got them to a respectable technological level before disaster struck. An asteroid, containing high levels of chlorofluorocarbons and radioactive materials, hit their planet. Overnight, the surface became uninhabitable. Many managed to get underground with large amounts of animals, where they could be safe, but billions of lives were lost. Tiarn Dorchu raged at having his perfect world destroyed, but he recomposed himself and got to work on fixing his world. He was too stubborn and way too prideful to abandon it.

Pre-Apocalypse[]

Thíosverden was originally called Foirfverden. The planet was like a forest park. It had beautiful plant life, ample trees and berry bushes, and wide variety of animal life that could get rather big but nothing that the dominate species couldn't handle. It had many large lakes and rivers running throughout the planet but no oceans. The terrain was hilly and mountainous. The planet regularly experienced strong winds, nothing that could uproot a tree. The inhabitants liked the wind and built their structures to let the wind flow around them, preventing swaying and making them more aesthetically pleasing. Under the surface were large, winding caverns with their own ecosystem of plants, including bioluminescent moss, and small animals and deep pools of water and, in the deepest parts, magma. It was a paradise. Their Tree of Life used to stand tall and proud on the surface with roots stretching far and wide.

The dominate species are the dark elves. The 'dark' in their name refers to Tiarn Dorchu (dark lord), not any proclivity for darkness. Before the apocalypse, they numbered in the billions. They are predatory, mainly using bows and arrows to hunt. Their magic and keen eyes and ears made finding and sneaking up on pray easy. They lived in harmony with their forests. They are tall, averaging 6ft, with dense musculature and the ability to move like a cat. They had skin that ranged the shades of copper and bronze. They appear similar to humans, save for their large, pointed ears. Many described them as majestic.

Post-Apocalypse[]

After the meteor strike, the sun was blocked out by the all the dirt and debris in the air, the ozone layer was destroyed, the shockwave and planet shakes destroyed the cities, and fires spread across the forests, turning the surface into a cold, dusty, eradiated wasteland. The only living things that survived either were in or had made it down into the caverns, but there have been rumors that some dark elves escaped to other worlds, possibly even as far as Magix. The dark elves had to set up air purifier systems and seal off the caverns in order to breathe, leading them to become a subterranean species. Their perfect world was gone. As such, the world was renamed Thíosverden. Now, if anyone wanted to travel to the surface, they would need to wear heavy, lead-lined robes over a hermetically sealed, full-body suit and a heavy duty respiratory protective devices. The strong winds the planet's inhabitants once loved now continuously kick up dust and debris, leaving the skies perpetually dusty and making sand storms frequent. A new species of tree evolved to live in the wasteland, called dead trees because they look like they're dead and don't have any leaves, and they're the only life on the surface. They survive by having roots that go deep into the caverns to acquire water and by using the radiation for photosynthesis instead of sunlight. The planet's Tree of Life has adapted to become more like these dead trees and is actively trying to restore life to the surface.

Living underground changed the dark elves. They quickly evolved to fit their new environment. The most notable change is their skin color. Without sunlight, their skin is now pail and ashy, almost translucent. Their skin is now highly light sensitive, burning and blistering almost as if they were allergic to it, even on planets with an intact ozone layer. Their eyes are also now highly light sensitive. The most light they can tolerate is candle light. They must wear dark sunglasses whenever they leave their caves. They've also gotten shorter due to their more limited food and space, now only averaging 5ft 8in. Returning to the surface is no longer a viable option due to their adaptions, but they are still working towards fixing their world.

The native magic is Lightfoot Magic. This magic focuses on stealth, agility, and speed. Those with this magic can quiet their footsteps and move as if they weigh nothing. For them, sneaking up on or away from someone is as easy as walking. Pre-apocalypse, outworlders could only gain this magic if Tiarn Dorchu deemed them worthy of having it, which was almost never, but post-apocalypse, outworlders could gain this magic by providing the dark elves with resources.

Réinabheist[]

Króndúlra is one of those people that would prefer to have a lot of pets rather than children, meaning there are no sapient species native to Réinabheist. They are a caring god, particularly to their siblings' children. They care for all life and is deeply in touch with the natural order, living inside the planet's Tree of Life.

Réinabheist has an ecosystem almost as diverse as Earth's, only lacking the 'f*** all life, f***ing die' areas like Lake Natron, Death Valley, and brine pools. Like Earth, it is covered in vast oceans that help keep the planetary temperatures stable, but unlike Earth, it has a very minor axis tilt, making temperature changes between seasons minimal. Humans would find the temperature a bit toasty but nothing people from the tropical regions can't handle.

Réinabheist has no dominate species. The closest the planet has are the qilins, rocs, giant wolves, tree gliders, stabthers, true hippogriffs, bibis, akhluts, mafdets, elemental lizards, tempest birds, night bewitchers, and winged-serpents. These species are the most intelligent on the planet. When harmonized with a sapient creature, they can gain sapience and the ability to speak.

The native magic is Harmony Magic. Harmony Magic is the next step up from bonding magic, linking the magic and life force of two or more creatures together. Harmonized creatures could possibly even fuse together into one being. Outworlders can gain this magic if they bond with a Réinabheist native.

The Void[]

The Void is the force that birthed the Naoi Dhiane Siblín. It is omnipresent and unbound by time. It originated in the Nine Realms Dimension, but it has now spread to all other known dimensions. All creatures that wield the power of its children also have a connection to it, allowing them to teleport throughout it and see past events. Gaining the full power of the Void grants one power over time and space and the ability to survive anywhere. Knowledge about the Void is extremely limited, but those that have knowledge of the Void and the Nine Realms have theorized that if someone were able to gain all ten magics, they would obtain a power beyond mortal comprehension.

The Abyss[]

The Abyss was a force created by Kysa to counter the Void. It grants the same powers as the Void, but it acts as a virus. It can make monsters out of man and demons out of monsters. If an individual is compatible with the virus, e.g. they're truly evil, they can control the resulting infection, but if they aren't compatible, the infection will travel to the brain and take over the host. The infection occurs in three stages. In the first stage, the body is flooded with the virus, causing swollen lymph nodes and, in non-compatible hosts, extreme pain. In the second stage, the virus will have built up enough to start forming hypha-like structures throughout the body, turning the blood and veins black and taking over non-compatible hosts. This is typically where the infections stops. It is rare for even compatible hosts to reach the final stage without assistance. In the final stage, the hypha will be thick and strong and can grant the host extreme regenerative capabilities, and the host will be able to control them and extend them outside of their body to be used as a weapon or armor.
