Biography[]

Early Life[]

Like many early gods, Valkmir existed long before recoded history, being born of the stories humans told. When exactly, not even they remember, and the only calendars around back then were bone-carved menstrual calendars.

They first appeared in Europe and quickly began flying around, watching humans hunt and put on plays to tell more stories. They liked this humans and started following them. They didn't have a name back then, so their humans named them Chuckles. They followed their hunters as they traveled across the land and across the sea twice. They loved and blessed their humans and pulled pranks on them. Human life is fleeting, but they understood and accepted that fact. They were there during every one of their friends' funerals and made new friends with the humans that came after them.

All that came to an end when their humans were attacked by monsters. Demons straight out of nightmares, the fomóir, followed the hunters back to their camp and devoured each and every human. Chuckles tried to stop them, but they were just a small trickster god. By the time all was over, they stood alone in the bloody remains of their friends.

They spent the next several years following the fomóir across Eurasia and northern Africa, trying to kill them. During this time, they began to change. More and more people saw them with the fomóir. Humans began associating them with death. They became a god of death and took on a new name, Valkmir. But even with their new power, they still couldn't slay the fomóir.

One day, they witnessed something they couldn't believe, a human vanquished the demons. They landed and greeted the human, asking them who they were and what they did to the monsters. The human introduced herself as Sylva and informed Valkmir that she unfortunately did not kill the fomóir but could only banish them to the Shadow Marsh. This created a massive problem. The living were now free of the fomóir, but the souls passing onto the afterlife were now in grave danger.

Sister Moon, alerted by the massive shift in the Shadow Marsh, came down to figure out what the commotion was about. They were apprized of the situation, and as god of the afterlife, this greatly concerned them. The first thing they did was combine the blood of the banisher, Sylvia, with the powers of the companion of death, Valkmir, and the guardian of the afterlife, Sister Moon, to ensure they were truly sealed away. Next, they enlisted the help of Valkmir to create a force to protect souls from the fomóir, the Aoire na Marbh.

Life on Tír Nan Óg[]

With the monsters that killed their friends finally gone, Valkmir decided to retire to somewhere far away from any humans, where they wouldn't have to witness humans dying. They flew for weeks and found an island with no humans on it, but the island did have a strange tree on it. They realized that the tree was special and decided to settle down there and protect the tree.

Darkest Day[]

Appearance[]

Valkmir can change his appearance however she pleases, but their two preferred forms are that a raven and an androgynous human.

Raven[]

Their preferred raven form appears as a normal raven but with purple eyes and a purple ombré along his black and wing feathers. They prefer the raven over all other corvids due to the fact they are the largest of the corvids.

They can also turn into a giant raven, usually about the size of a large pickup, with a white skull mask in place of their normal face when they need to look impressive or relieve someone of their constipation.

Human[]

In their preferred human form, Valkmir prefers to use female pronouns. She is whatever race is least likely to get her harassed by the police (i.e. most of the time she's white or Asian) and the average height of wherever she's visiting. She has chest length black hair with a purple ombré and purple eyes. She wears the Black Armor, a black full-body leather armor with a hood and face mask, feathery pauldrons, and a cape made of black feathers that also had a purple ombré. Her cape can turn into her wings for flight.

Powers & Abilities[]

As a god, Valkmir cannot be harmed or killed by typical means. As a trickster god, they are divinely intelligent and quick witted and can shapeshift and cast illusions. As a death god and creator of the Aoire na Marbh, they have all the same powers as the Shepherds of the Dead. They can also persuade people to do what they want and alter memories through psychomancy .

As for combat, they can create swords and daggers out of their feathers that they can launch at their enemies or wield when in a form with hands. Against other gods or similar beings, her Black Armor provides her mild protection, but that is not its main function. Her armor allows for speed and strength, which are her main assets.

Weaknesses[]

  • Abyss Magic: Divine Magic is directly derived from the Void, meaning anything created to counter the Void would be extremely effective against anything derived from it. Abyss Magic is one of the few ways to kill a god.

Personality[]

Valkmir is about what you'd expect from a trickster deity. They are mischievous and enjoy causing trouble for mortals and other gods alike, but they aren't malicious. They don't want to cause harm. They just enjoy being silly and finding ways to amuse themself through the eons.

She is very protective of fairykind because most of their children are fairies.

Etymology[]

  • 'Valkmir' is a name made up of the word 'valk' meaning "slain" in Old Norse and the Persian name 'Mir' meaning "prince commander". Put together, their name means "prince commander of the slain"
  • The valknut is also the symbol of Odin, a god famous for being accompanied by two ravens.
